B12 Injections

Also known as hydroxocobalamin injections, Vitamin B12 injections are a popular way to ensure adequate nutritional intake. Performing several important roles within the body, B12 supports the normal function of nerve cells and plays a vital part in the synthesis of red blood cells. Many people don't consume enough Vitamin B12 in their diet and therefore experience symptoms of Vitamin B12 deficiency, particularly those who follow a vegetarian and vegan diet for example. Even if you still eat foods high in Vitamin B12 you could still benefit from B12 injections. Some people just don't absorb the vitamin very well, due to a lack of a substance called intrinsic factor. This is a protein produced in the stomach that binds to the vitamin, helping to absorb it into the bloodstream.

The levels can also reduce with age, as well as being at a lower level ion people who have undergone weight loss surgery, suffer from Pernicious anaemia, Coeliacs or Crohn's disease.

Why Use Vitamin B12 Injections?

Being deficient in B12 can often lead to a feeling of extreme fatigue, lack of energy and muscle weakness, alongside many other symptoms. Therefore, many people choose to have B12 injections to help with their energy levels and brain function. Whilst the effect of Vitamin B12 on mood is not yet fully understood, it plays a vital role in the synthesis and metabolism of serotonin - the chemical responsible for regulating your mood. It is thought that low levels of B12 could lead to a decrease in the production of serotonin- ultimately contributing to low mood and depression.

The injections work quickly, they are the most effective way for your body to absorb Vitamin B12. Within 48 to 72 hours your body will begin to make new red blood cells. Supplementary tablets can be taken to account got a lock of B12 in the diet. However, injections are a more effective methods because the vitamin is delivered straight into your system without being digested first, allowing for maximum results. Any Vitamin B12 that is not required by the body is excreted in the urine.

How Long Do the Injections Last?

The effects following Vitamin B12 injections vary between individual clients and are influenced by lifestyle and diet, as well as any underling medication conditions. Where some people may require a single B12 injection to improve their symptoms, others may find that they need regular injections to maintain their levels within optimum range.

It is important that you have a full consultation with one of our medically trained practitioners at Dr D&D Aesthetics prior to any treatment to adequately assess your symptoms and which treatment programme is best for you. Depending on your symptoms it may be recommended to increase your levels with weekly B12 injections over 4 weeks, followed by a maintenance programme once your levels are balanced. Often people tend to feel they require top-ups around 3-6 monthly; again depending on recurrent symptoms.
