Lip Fillers
Lip Fillers are a very popular, safe, and effective method of enhancing the natural size and shape of the lips. Thinning lips become a common reality as we age. Lip fillers can be used subtly to just plump the volume, perhaps enhance their shape or even redefine the Cupid's bow. It can also gently stretch and fill out the wrinkles around the mouth in which lipstick bleeds into.
The best way to give lips a fuller, plumper appearance and hence a more attractive, youthful appearance, is to restore lost volume and moisture with fillers that contain the body's own natural material; hyaluronic acid. This means that it is unlikely to have any negative side effects.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does it involve?
Lips are a very sensitive area, therefore prior to your treatment you will be given a topical anaesthetic cream to apply 30 minutes before the procedure to allow for comfortable treatment. To ensure the most comfort for our patients all of our lip fillers also contain lidocaine, a type of anaesthetic. Depending on patient preference ice can also be used to reduce swelling and bruising. Small injections of the hyaluronic acid are used to add volume to the border and body of the lips. The injection style may alter slightly for each patient, depending on the desired outcome.
How much filler will I need?
Most patients start with up to 1ml of dermal filler to treat the lips. If you want a much fuller lip you can come back after 4 weeks to have further filler, to give a more dramatic volumising effect.
When will I see results?
You will see the effects immediately. Initially there is a lot of swelling after lip enhancement because the lips have got such a good blood supply. This settles down over 24-72 hours and then you are left with the final effects.
How long will it last?
Individual results may vary, depending on the patient and the type of product used. Dermal Fillers used for lip augmentation approximately last 6-12 months,
Is it safe?
Dermal fillers are safe if administered correctly and by a qualified healthcare professional. The aesthetic industry is very poorly regulated in the UK, meaning a beautician or even a plumber can obtain dermal fillers and inject anyone's face without having any knowledge or understanding of anatomy, including the blood and nerve supply to the face. If administered incorrectly or too close to one of the main blood supplies the practitioner administering the dermal filler must use an injection which immediately reverses the filler. This injection, however can only be obtained by a doctor or healthcare professional with a prescribing licence. Hence why it is so important to see a registered medical professional who understands the anatomy of the face and knows which areas to avoid. Our clinic is doctor and nurse led, meaning we have undertaken extensive training into the anatomy of the face to ensure we are delivering safe treatments for our patients.
Is it painful?
Lips are full of blood vessels and nerve endings. So it is fair to say that you will feel a pinch as the needle is inserted and then a stinging sensation at the start of the filler injection. Then it doesn't hurt because the filler contains a small amount of local anaesthetic. Numbing cream is also applied to the lips prior to treatment. Lip augmentation is generally tolerated very well and people come back for more!
Is there any bruising?
Bruising is quite common because of the excellent blood supply to the lips. However, this same said blood supply also means that they heal quickly too. If you bruise easily ice can be used during your treatment, this also helps to reduce the swelling and often makes the procedure more comfortable. If you easily bruise you may choose to apply Arnica cream to the treated area.
