Hyperhidrosis Therapy

Hyperhidrosis is a common condition in which a person sweats excessively. It is most commonly associated with the axilla (armpit), but it can affect other parts of the body too.

Our practitioners treat hyperhidrosis using Botox® injections. This is a quick and straightforward procedure, which is highly effective and can be life-changing for those who are troubled by excessive sweating.

Hyperhidrosis occurs when the body’s sweat glands are overactive. As your body temperature rises, the body's nervous system activates your sweat glands, naturally cooling the body down. In those who suffer from hyderhidrosis, however, the nerves that signal to the sweat glands are overactive. These signal even when the body is cool, causing an excessive amount of sweating.

Sweating can become so profuse and excessive that it can impact your day-to-day activities, often leading to stress and anxiety - which further worsens the problem!

If you suffer from hyperhidrosis then hyperhidrosis therapy could be the solution for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

Hyperhidrosis therapy is a safe and effective method of reducing embarrassing sweating. Using medical Botox our practitioners can prevent your overactive nerves from signalling to your sweat glands - ultimately, reducing sweat production and significantly reducing these embarrassing symptoms.

What does it involve?

Following a full consultation for your hyperhidrosis therapy, your clinician will firstly apply a numbing cream, before marking the areas they intend to treat. Once the numbing cream has had time to take full effect Botox will be injected into the areas marked. Treatment typically involves around 20 injections, however this is vary depending on the area of the body being treated. The procedure should take approximately 30-45 minutes, including time for the numbing cream to work.

You can continue with your normal daily routine immediately after, as there is no recovery period required.

What should I do prior to my treatment?

24 hours prior to your appointment you should shave the area to be treated. It is important to shower the morning of your appointment and not to apply deodarant. We recommend wearing la loose fitting top as you will need to expose the area to be treated.

Is it painful?

Most people experience some mild discomfort whilst the injections are being administered into sensitive areas, however the overall treatment is not unpleasant.

When will it start to work?

You should notice an improvement within roughly 7-14 days, although results can vary from one person to the next.

How long will it last?

The effect of treatment lasts usually for around 6 months to a year. You can extend the result of your treatment by using driclor or another similar product.

Is it safe?

Botox has been used for many years and is used for a wide range of different medical conditions. By choosing a reputable, experienced and professional practitioner, such as a medically trained aesethetics clinician, will help ensure a safe procedure and positive outcomes frpm your treatment.

You will be fully assessed by our trained medical and aesthetics doctor to ensure that you are suitable for the treatment.

Can anyone have botox for hyperhidrosis?

It is important to firstly investigate why you are having excessive sweating as it may be an indication of an underlying medical condition. For that reason we recommend you see oyur GP, who may wish to carry out blood tests to determine the cause of your excessive sweating.

You are not suitable for treatment with Botox if:

  • there is any chance you could be pregnant or breastfeeding

  • you have Myasthenia Gravis or Eaton Lambert Syndrome

  • you have had a hypersensitivity reaction to product ingredients, specifically BTX-A

  • you currently have an active infection around the area to be injected
