Dermal Fillers
Fillers work to add volume and structure to your face!
Dermal fillers can be used to replace lost volume under the skin where it begins to sag, and to enhance facial features. The filler contains hyaluronic acid which is the natural filler and moisturiser in our bodies. It acts to hydrate and plump up the skin. As we age the body produces less hyaluronic acid and so the skin can lose its volume, firmness and youthful appearance. The Dermal Fillers are injected under the skin, adding fullness and enhancing the natural features and shape of your face, evening helping to remove wrinkles.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body, making it safe and effective and so allergic reaction is rare. The old types of fillers, containing silicone or collagen, are not used in our clinic.

Types of Dermal Fillers
Nasolabial Folds
These are the two skin folds that run from the each side of the nose to the corners of the mouth which deepen and become more prominent as we age. One of the most frequently performed dermal filler treatment is the reduction of the depth of these folds. Due to the complex anatomy of the face and given the risks that comes with this, blunt tip microcannula are always used in our clinic. This reduces bruising and any significant complications.
Cheek Fillers
Over time the face loses subcutaneous fat, causing the cheeks to become flat and saggy, giving a sunken-in look. Cheek fillers are often used to restore plumpness, volume and define a natural cheekbone structure. A cheekbone treatment gives the face a subtle lift and accentuate the V-shape of the face, which consequently radiates youthfulness. Filling up the cheekbones also immediately softens the nasolabial folds, thereby giving an illusion of youth to the entire face.
Chin Fillers
The chin can appear too small or hidden in the lower region of the face. Dermal fillers in this region can provide elongation of the face and in some cases, can provide the look of a more defined profile.
Marionette Lines
Marionette lines form as facial volume begins to deplete and deeper creases begin to form below the mouth. These are the lines that draw downwards from the corners of the mouth either side of the chin, making the face look angry or sad. Or occasionally what is known as the 'puppet face'.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it involve?
Prior to your Dermal Filler treatment you will have an initial consultation with one of our practitioners to discuss the best options for you in terms of areas to be treated.
The procedure then begins with ensuring the face is properly cleaned and sterile prior to introducing small needles under the skin.
Although our products contain lidocaine, a type of anaesthetic, to ensure the most comfort for our patients when receiving Dermal Filler treatment, we also apply numbing cream to the area to be treated before
Depending on patient preference we also sometimes use ice. We find that this helps to reduce swelling and bruising in those prone to bruising. After your treatment we advise to use cold compress to reduce swelling, if necessary.
Post-Treatment Care:
Avoid makeup or product application for 24hrs to help prevent infection.
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24hrs
Avoid intense heat (sunbathing) for 24hrs
Avoid consuming excess amounts of alcohol
Try to sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling
Try Arnica cream to help reduce bruising
Avoid the use of Ibuprofen or Aspirin after your treatment.
Avoid significant massage to the treated area. Unless instructed by your practitioner.
When will it start to work?
Results will be seen immediately following Dermal Fillers.
How long will it last?
Individual results may vary, depending on the type of product used. Dermal Fillers used for lip augmentation and soft lines of the face approximately last 6-12 months, whereas Dermal Fillers used for restoring volume to the cheeks and chin can last up to 18 months.
What are the potential side effects?
It is completely normal to experience a little discomfort, redness and bruising after the procedure. it is not uncommon to have some redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising at the injection location, however this generally occurs immediately after treatment. These reactions are generally mild to moderate and usually resolve a few days after the injection.
Is it safe?
The one thing you need to know, above all else, is never consider undergoing any kind of injectable procedure at a beuty salon or spa. For some inexplicable reason, in the UK there is no regulation on who is able to inject filler into someone's face. This is the same for Botox treatment. In the rest of Europe you must be a qualified doctor in order to perform the treatment. Dermal Fillers are safe if being administered by properly qualified medical professionals who have extensive understanding of the facial anatomy. The face has many sensitive underlying structures, such as nerves and bloods vessels. If the person administering the filler is unqualified and not careful, there is risk of damage, artery occlusion, infection and scarring. Hence why it is so important to see a registered medical professional who understands the anatomy of the face and knows which areas to avoid.
