Anti-wrinkle injections can achieve a tighter and smoother appearance

Anti-wrinkle injections, otherwise known as Botox® or Botulinum toxin is the most popular, well-researched and documented aesthetic procedure. It works by targeting the small muscles of the face and temporarily blocking the transmission of signals from the nerve ending to the muscle group, causing a temporary 'paralysis' of the muscle. This results in the softening of lines and wrinkles on the skin.

The most commonly requested areas for anti-wrinkle injections are the dynamic lines around the eyes and forehead.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it involve?

Following a full consultation for your Anti-wrinkle treatment, Danielle will discuss the best options for you in terms of best areas to be treated. After this, the Botox is administered into specific areas of the skin using very small needles.

When will it start to work?

It takes 2 weeks to see it's full effect, however some patients notice that their skin feels smoother and tighter earlier than this.

How long will it last?

The effect of treatment lasts about 3-6 months and after that time, the wrinkles usually remain shallower than before treatment.

As Botox is not a cure for old-age, and symptoms will gradually return as the medication wears off, patients often choose to top up the treatment 3-4 times a year to maintain a more youthful appearance. The more you have done, the longer it can last.

If you choose not to have anti-wrinkle treatment again, you will not have any adverse effects on your skin, you will just develop normal lines and wrinkles.

Is it safe?

Botox has been used for many years and is used for a wide range of different medical conditions.

For instance, Botox can also be used to help reduce headaches and migraines. It works by relaxing the muscles that are associated with tension headaches. Often, the muscles that are treated are the forehead (frontalis) and glabella (frown muscles). These are the muscles which we often overuse, resulting in headaches and migraines.

You will be fully assessed prior to anti-wrinkle injections to ensure you are suitable for the treatment.

Can anyone have anti-wrinkle injections?

No, you are not suitable for Botox if:

  • there is any chance you could be pregnant or breastfeeding

  • you have Myasthenia Gravis or Eaton Lambert Syndrome

  • you have had a hypersensitivity reaction to product ingredients, specifically BTX-A

  • you currently have an active infection around the area to be injected

If you are unsure, contact our clinic for further advice.

Is there any bruising?

After the treatments there may be some mild swelling or bruising, which will be temporary. Try not to touch the treated area for a couple of hours, to prevent spread into other surrounding muscles.
